Buyers Guide
Picking the right PC is a very important choice to make, after all computers aren’t cheap and you don’t want to be stuck with something that doesn’t suit your needs.
The last thing you’re going to want to do is spend over $1000 on an item for it to not actually run the games you or your child wants to play.
And while it is a really vital choice, it is only made more difficult by the fact that then when you’re reading the descriptions there’s lots of words, and letters, and numbers, and it can be difficult to really know what all of that means.Which is good? What actually matters?
In this buyer’s guide, I’ll go over what these different things actually mean and how much/what you need for them to run Minecraft on the computer.
Operating system
You may see this as the full words ‘Operating System’ or it may be shortened down to ‘OS.’ So what is an operating system? It’s essentially the software or program that runs on a computer that manages a computer’s resources.
If you want to play minecraft on your computer the minimum requirement for an operating system would be 64-bit Windows 7. Anything older than this system will absolutely not be able to run the game.
Of course, computers are always being updated and upgraded. Windows 7 is the absolute oldest system that it can run on. But it can run much better and faster on newer version operating systems.
It is recommended that your operating system is at least 64-bit Windows 10 for a better game experience.
Processor
The next thing you’ll need to take into account is your PC’s processor. The processor, which can also be known as the CPU, provides the instructions and processing power that the computer needs to do its work.
So the more powerful/updated your processor is, the faster your computer will complete its tasks. When you then take into account how fast reactions need to be for online gaming, you’ll see how important it is to make sure you have a powerful processor.
For minecraft to run quickly and efficiently, as a minimum requirement you would need at least an Intel Core i3 3210 | AMD A8 7600 or equivalent.
However this is still relatively old and though you will be able to play, the game is unlikely to play smoothly and seamlessly.
If you want that higher quality gameplay it is recommended that your computer has an Intel Core i5 4690 | AMD A10 7800 or equivalent.
Graphic Cards
Graphic cards are known as a few different names, so if you hear any of the following, know that they are also different terms for graphic card: video card, display card, graphics adapter, VGA card, or display adapter.
It is basically an expansion card which generates a feed of output images to a display device (your computer screen.) Better graphics cards will give you, you guessed it, better graphics. This can make the gameplay more enjoyable.
Your minimum requirement for a graphics to play minecraft is Intel’s HD Graphics 4000 or AMD Radeon R5 series | Nvidia GeForce 400 series.
The recommended graphics for best minecraft gameplay is Nvidia GeForce 700 series | AMD Radeon Rx 200 series.
Memory
Memory on your computer is the electronic holding place for the instructions and data a computer needs to reach quickly. Basically it’s where all the information is kept for immediate use.
Memory is one of the most basic functions of your computer and without it, the PC can’t really function. So of course, the more games (and instructions) you want your computer to store, the more memory you will need.
The minimum amount of computer memory you’ll need to play minecraft is 4GB.
The recommended memory you’ll need is 8GB.
But remember that this is just for the game itself. If you are wanting to do multiple things on your computer you will want more than exactly these amounts so you can still run other things too.
Disk Space
Again, this can have a couple of different names: disk storage, storage capacity, or disk capacity. But essentially disk space is the maximum amount of data that the disk is capable of holding.
Obviously games such as minecraft hold a sizable amount of data and so you need to ensure that you have the storage space for it.
The minimum disk space required is 180 MB to 1GB.
The recommended disk space is around 4GB with SSD
Frequently Asked Questions

Unfortunately not. Minecrafts system requirements are currently only compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.

If you don’t want to modify the game further, I would suggest using windows 10 as the java edition is more resource intensive.
Final Thoughts
Minecraft is a great game where you can let your imagination run wild, and honestly you don’t need a top of the range computer to fire up and get playing this game.
Options on a budget will allow you to enjoy the game just fine, of course if you would like to pay the extra for better features such as faster running speed and better graphics, you can always upgrade to a slightly more expensive computer for a more deluxe gaming experience.
